Eastchester

Eastchester is a town in Westchester County that includes the villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe. In 1664 ten families migrated from Fairfield, Connecticut to Eastchester. These ten original families were joined by 26 under a deed to "settle down at Hutchinsons". By the following year, laws were established for the region under an agreement called the "Eastchester Covenant". This document contained 26 provisions with items like: education of children, dispositions and upkeep of property, and support of a minister. By 1666 the settler's 1664 patent was granted by Governor Richard Nicolls. At the outbreak of the Revolution, Easchester was a primarily a farming community.
