Hollis
Hollis is a neighborhood within the southeastern section of the New York City borough of Queens. Originally a Dutch settlement in the 17th century, the neighborhood was a battlefield for part of the Battle of Long Island. This is where Brigadier-General Nathaniel Woodhull was captured and taken as a prisoner. Woodhull Avenue is named in honor of him. Brigadier-General Woodhull was born on December 30, 1722 in Mastic, Long Island and died in the Dutch village of New Utrecht on September 20, 1776.
