Howard Beach
Howard Beach is a neighborhood in the southwestern portion of Queens bound by the Belt Parkway, South Conduit Avenue, Jamaica Bay, 102-104th Streets and 78th Street. The beach neighborhood was established in the 1890s by Willian J. Howard, a Brooklyn glove manufacturer. He moved into the neighborhood and bought lots of land so he could have his goat farm, whose skins he’d use for gloves. When the Long Island Rail Road established in 1905, a newer neighborhood opened up including a Post Office and a Casino. After War World II many Cape-Cod and High Ranch style houses sprang up on Howard Beach.
