Peekskill

Peekskill is a city in Westchester County and on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River, across from Jones Point. In its early history, the area was an American industrial center. For instance, the makers of Crayola products began as the Peekskill Chemical Company at Annsville in 1864. The city is about 50 miles north of New York City.

The first settler in the area was New Amsterdam resident Jan Peeck, who formalized the Ryck's Patent Deed of 1684 in the area. The name Peekskill came from his name and the Dutch word "kil"meaning stream.
