Pelham

Pelham is a town in Westchester County, New York containing the villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor. Twenty eight minutes north of New York City, the Town of Pelham is considered “the first suburb north of New York City”.

Pelham is the oldest town in Westchester County named after Thomas Pell, who bought this area of land in 1654 from the Siwanoy Indians. Thomas Pell’s nephew, Sir John Pell, was the first of the Pells to live in Pelham Manor. Through the American Revolution, only members of the Pell family lived in the area. The Joshua Pell House, built in 1760 still stands on Shore Road. The Town of Pelham was officially incorporated on March 7, 1788.
