Pleasantville is a village in Westchester County, New York and located in the Town of Mount Pleasant. The village is home to the campus of Pace University, the Jacob Burns Film Center and the original home of Reader’s Digest.

Original inhabitants of the village were the Iroquois tribe, who used the area to raise corn. One of the first settlers of the area was French Huguenot Isaac, who settled here as an agent for Frederick Philipse. The area was called Clark’s Corner in honor of Henry Clark in the early 19th century. When a new post office was built and needed a name, the new postmaster Henry Romer decided on the name Pleasantville. The Pleasantville Post Office opened on February 29, 1828. Soon the railroad came to Pleasantville, turning it into a commuter neighborhood.

The village of Pleasantville is currently governed by Mayor Peter Scherer, Deputy Mayor Mindy Berard and Trustee Members: Jonathan Cunningham, Stephen Lopes and Brian Skarstad. Village Board work sessions are held every Monday night at 7:00PM.
